'Brunello di Montalcino' is made from Sangiovese grapes, a grape variety which, in Momntalcino, is traditionally called "Brunello".
The production regulations establish that the maximum production of grapes per hectare is less than 80 q.li/ha (about 52 hl/ha of wine). It also regulates the release, which takes place on the 1st January of the fifth year after the harvest.
During this long period, the wine must spend at least two years in wooden barrels and at least four months aging in a bottle. The period of preservation in bottle increases up to six months for the Reserve wine, which is released a year later.
Brunello di Montalcino is a clear, bright, garnet-colored wine. It is intense, persistent, ample and ethereal to the nose. You can recognize hints of underbrush, aromatic wood, small fruits, light vanilla and jam.
On the palate the wine has an elegant and harmonious body and backbone, it's dry with a long aromatic persistence. Because of its characteristics, Brunello di Montalcino withstands long aging, improving over time.
