Another gem in the Abruzzo wine-production arena is the Trebbiano d’Abruzzo vine, with over 10,000 hectares in Abruzzo dedicated to its production.
Trebbiano d’Abruzzo is a dry white wine with a golden color, a delicate bouquet and a fresh, acidic character.
Relative to the production methods use to grow this vine, the resulting wine can have different facets, ranging from a fresh, very drinkable wine all the way to a white wine with much greater depth and complexities.
The Trebbiano d’Abruzzo production area is a micro-denomination extending throughout the entire Abruzzo region. Within the region, there are 150 communes with a Trebbiano presence, divided throughout the provinces of Chieti, Aquila, Pescara and Teramo. With such a wide expanse of physical territory, wines produced with Trebbiano d’Abruzzo can vary greatly relative to assorted microclimates and altitudes. Essentially, for every wine lover, there’s a corresponding wine with just the right elements.
Thanks to this flexibility, Trebbiano d’Abruzzo wines can be matched with a wide range of culinary options: from antipastos to seafood-based first courses. An excellent food and wine pairing could be with the classic Risotto with Mixed Shellfish, or Spaghetti with Clam Sauce.
Simple dishes like Tagliatelle with Butter and Sage sauce, or the local Fettuccine Abruzzo-style or Light Fish Soup also make wonderful pairs. Thanks to its dry, velvet, harmonious aroma, Trebbiano d’Abruzzo is also wonderful with fresh, mild cheeses.
