What wine does gelato go with? 

Pairing wine with ice cream is not an easy task, but it is certainly fun because of the countless combinations of flavours and taste sensations. In this case, the cream is marked by the clear sensation of egg and sweet, so it is appropriate to counterbalance with a dessert wine with a not too marked sweet sensation such as sweet Malvasia. As an alternative, a sparkling Moscato is also excellent.

  • Milk 1.25 cup
  • Whipping Cream 1.25 cup
  • Eggs (Yolk Only) 7
  • Sugar (Granulated) 1.5 cup

Create the gelato

Beat egg yolks with granulated sugar using electric mixer until thickened and well-blended. Heat the heavy cream with the milk in medium sauce pan over medium-low heat until hot but not boiling. Remove from heat, and when cooled, slowly fold into egg mixture.  Pour mixture back into small saucepan, and heat over very low heat for a few minutes. Remove from heat.  Allow blend to cool off, and pour into ice cream maker, where it should churn for between 30-40 minutes or until consistency is correct. Once the correct consistency is reached, place into freezer.

Serve or store gelato

Once the correct consistency is reached in the ice cream maker during churning, you can either store in freezer until ready to enjoy, or serve promptly.
