LUGANA ‘VENDEMMIA TARDIVA’ (LATE HARVEST)

Today we discover with Mamablip's sommelier Filippo Bartolotta, the characteristics of Lugana Tardiva: a more "experimental" wine, but far from the sweet viscosity of a traditional passito!

This Lugana is in fact obtained with an "over-ripening" of the plant through a late harvest of grapes between the end of October and the beginning of November, without further drying in the ‘fruttaio’.

Lake Garda

This is thanks to a microclimate which positively influenced by the temperate breezes of Lake Garda,  ideal for the mildness and low incidence of temperature changes between day and night. A perfect "climatic cradle" to care for and enhance the peculiarities of a particular grape such as Trebbiano di Lugana, which Lugana producers like to call "Turbiana", to distinguish it from other varieties of national Trebbiano.

Vine

The richer and more concentrated dried grapes give Lugana a "late" profile, therefore softer and denser, but not excessively sweet, where the residual sugar is effectively balanced by the acidity on the model of the Vendange Tardive Alsatian, or of the  German Spätlese.

Food Pairing

Vendemmia Tardiva is ideally matched with cheeses, from the freshest such as ricotta, robiola and crescenza, to the most salty and tasty ones,  such as Monte Veronese, Grana Padano and Provolone Valpadana.
