Filippo takes us to Roccapesta, and tastes the DOCG Calestaia, Morellino di Scansano
The gorgeous landscapes surrounding the Roccapesta winery estate aren’t just a pretty picture, as beautiful as they may be. The landscapes and terroirs on the Roccapesta and outside its walls are filled with the soils and climates that give these Sangiovese grapes their character, their flavors, and their intrinsic Tuscan qualities.
The main principles behind all the wines created at the Roccapesta wine estate in Maremma is to produce fine, top-quality wines that reflect the natural environment surrounding them as well as leaning towards ecological production techniques with just the right blend of scientific innovation and modernity. The Roccapesta DOCG Calestaia is a fine example of these practices, a brilliant ruby-red example of the wine-making family’s wishes. Filippo Bartolotta leads us through a tasting of Calestaia, giving us first hand all the heady aromas as they waft out of the Calestaia Morellino di Scansano bottle. We then head directly into the tasting with Filppo, and as he brings the flavors alive for us, it’s hard not to imagine the Calestaia’s red fruits and juicy tannins directly on our palates.
If you’ve enjoyed this wine tasting in the heart of Southern Tuscany, right in Maremma, you might also enjoy the Andrea Grignaffini’s, Mamablip wine and food journalist, look at the Bolgheri wine region.
