Today we join Filippo in Montalcino at the Castello di Romitorio wine Estate
The beauty of Tuscany can certainly shine in expected and unexpected places, and the Castello di
Romitorio, with its fascinating history hosting a range of monks, pilgrims, shepherds, nature lovers,
artists and wine-makers, reflects this natural allure.
The Castello di Romitorio is a beautiful castel nestled right in the heart of the Montalcino woods, on
the Northern slopes of the Val d’Orcia. The Castle is so prominent that it’s even visible from the
peaks of the Fortress of Montalcino. What do you think the wine is going to taste like from Castello
Let’s check it out with Filippo Bartolotta leading this tasting. This Brunello di Montalcino Riserva
wine holds lots of secrets of traditional Brunello wine making, resulting in a balanced tannic wine
that holds secrets of sweetness. Being a Riserva also means that the wine is meant to age for at
least 10 years, but it’s a worth-the-wait kind of experience.
The CAstello di Romitorio team making these interesting Brunello selections are dedicated to
working within the natural landscapes, perhaps with an artists sensibility to maintaining the balance
and equilibrium between nature and technology. The agricultural approach the Romitorio
winemakers follow is traditional, keeping an eye on the environmental impact and footprint wine-
making can leave on a territory.
