This year we're all about making handmade gifts to show we care. With the holidays just around the corner, we've made our plans already for what to gift to who, but if you're still working on that ever-growing list, how about spicing things up this year and going with something alcoholic? A great bottle of wine is always a fabulous gift, and we've got some great holiday wine gift ideas from our resident wine guru, Filippo Bartolotta, on the Mamablip website, so be sure to check that out.

If you're hankering to make your own alcohol-based gift this year, you've still got time as this recipe for Handmade Limoncello requires just a week of ageing time. Then it's time to bottle and gift, and enjoy! While also a wonderful option to concoct during hot summer months, when any lemon-flavored recipe is a sure-fire refreshment for the hot days, we love a little sunshine in our glasses during the off-season, when it can be gloomy and some yellow cheer is a great friend to have.

Enter the homemade limoncello recipe - you can pull this together anytime you've got the necessary ingredients, and drizzle a little lemony aroma over just about any Italian recipe you've made that requires a little waking up. Preparation

for 10 servings

Step

1

Of 2

Prepare the base for the Limoncello

Finely grate lemon and orange rinds and blend together, reserving fruit for other use (you’ll onnly  need the rinds). Fill glass bottle with alcohol (can be grain alcohol or vodka), and add grated rinds  along with bay leaves and cloves.

Cover or close bottle, and allow to rest for 1 week in cool, dry,  dark location.

Step

2

Of 2

Complete Limoncello preparation

Once maceration time has passed, bring water to boil in small sauce pan. When boiling, add  granulated sugar and continue boiling for 1 additional minute (sugar needs to dissolve in order to  create simple syrup).
Allow syrup to cool. While cooling, remove macerated liquor and filter to remove aromatics and  grated rinds. Put filtered alcohol into clean bottle, add cooled syrup to mixture.
The limoncello is ready!

A Limoncello with a twist!

Making liqueurs has always been a passion of mine, but the classic Limoncello had become a little repetitive. This recipe with a twist was absolutely exceptional, thank you!
