Description

The Brunello di Montalcino "Lupi e Sirene" of the winery Podere Le Ripi is a red wine of deep elegance and complexity produced in the southern part of Montalcino, in Tuscany.

This wine is obtained from pure Sangiovese grapes coming from vines grown in Alberello on a small plot of one hectare, characterized by clayey-calcareous soils. The vines are treated with great care and attention, following the principles of biodynamic agriculture, with a view to authentic expression of the terroir and the nuances of each single vintage. The winery,  about 54 hectares of woods, olive trees and vineyards, was born from the dream of Francesco Illy (who fell in love with this territory several years before) to own a house where he could produce wine in the midst of uncontaminated beauty.

The Brunello "Lupi e Sirene" is produced with grapes carefully selected and hand-picked towards the end of September. The bunches, taken to the cellar, undergo a delicate destemming and crushing and then alcoholic fermentation, using only indigenous yeasts, in large oak vats of Vosges, for a period of about 35 days, with maceration on the skins and frequent pumping over. This is followed by pressing of the grapes and malolactic fermentation, after which the wine is racked into large oak barrels where it remains in aging for at least 36 months before passing into cement tanks for a further 12 months and being bottled. The Brunello di Podere Le Ripi then matures for a further 12 months in bottle before being made available to the public.

The "Lupi e Sirene" Brunello di Montalcino from the Podere Le Ripi winery has a bright ruby red color with garnet reflections. On the nose there are intense and complex aromas of ripe fruit, including black cherry and blackberry, raspberry jam, floral notes of violets and Mediterranean herbs, hints of oriental spices, ending on woody details of undergrowth, wet earth and a slight balsamic hint. In the mouth it is rich, structured and opulent, characterized by tannins present and well balanced and a wonderful freshness.

This is a harmonious Brunello, with an excellent body and energetic sip, which expresses all the artisan side of Montalcino.
